“Family relationships and older people's use of digital technologies”
SPEAKER: Bruno Arpino (University of Padua)
ABSTRACT:
Across Europe and around the globe, there is a notable demographic shift towards an aging population. As our societies become increasingly digitalized, older individuals find themselves navigating a world where internet access and digital technologies are fundamental for accessing essential services, maintaining social connections, and receiving support and care. In light of these changes, it is crucial to explore how the adoption or avoidance of digital technologies impacts the social relationships and overall well-being of older adults. This talk will delve into recent research examining the links between family ties and the use of digital technologies among older individuals. We will explore the interplay between family dynamics and older adults' digital engagement, investigating the extent to which family relationships influence their technology use. Additionally, we will analyze how the use of digital tools affects family connections.
