Alexandros Kentikelenis is Professor of Political Economy and Sociology at Bocconi University in Milan, where he is also Director of the PhD Programme in Social and Political Sciences and Coordinator of the ‘Politics and the Welfare State’ research unit. A leading scholar of global governance, he studies how international cooperation is sustained and how internationally devised policies shape social protection, health systems, and inequality. Before moving to Milan, he held research posts at Oxford, Cambridge, and Harvard.

Alexandros has co-authored four books and over 50 articles that have appeared in leading academic journals, including the American Journal of Political ScienceAmerican Sociological ReviewAmerican Journal of SociologyThe Lancet, and World Development. He is a recipient of the Henrik Enderlein Prize for Research Excellence in the Social Sciences (2024), as well as multiple awards from professional associations for his writing.

Over the course of his career, Alexandros has secured over €1 million in research funding. His findings have attracted international media coverage (including The New York TimesLe MondeEl País, Reuters, and the BBC) and have informed parliamentary debates in the UK, Greece, and the European Parliament. Beyond academia, he has advised governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental organisations, including Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the World Health Organization, and Oxfam International, and he served as Vice-President of Greece’s National Centre for Social Solidarity.
