Politics and Welfare State

Coordinator: Alexandros Kentikelenis

The 'Politics and Welfare State' (PAWS) unit conducts and promotes research on political decision-making, public policy, inequality, and the welfare state. The group is interdisciplinary and brings together scholars conducting quantitative research in political science, international relations, political economy, political sociology, public policy, and related disciplines.

The research of unit members focuses on the following areas:

  • Comparative politics (incl. political parties, political behaviour and democracy)
  • International relations (incl. European and international political economy)
  • Welfare and redistribution (incl. social policies and taxation)
  • Technological change and its impact on society (the unit hosts and supports DAISI, the Dondena AI and Society Initiative)

The unit also runs the regular PAWS Clinic.

Please contact Alexandros Kentikelenis for more information on the activities of this P&I unit.

PAWS Clinic

PAWS (Politics and the Welfare State) Clinic provides a shared space for interdisciplinary quantitative research across political science, political economy, international relations, public policy, and related fields.

Seminars are held on selected Tuesdays from 13:00 to 14:00 and follow an informal, discussion-oriented format. We welcome presentations at any stage of the research process, from early designs and pre-analysis plans to preliminary or final results, from researchers at all career stages — PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty. The series is organized by PhD students for PhD students, but colleagues from across Dondena and the broader Bocconi community are warmly encouraged to take part.
