Alp-Pop brings together scholars interested in population issues across several disciplines, including demography, economics, epidemiology, political science, sociology and psychology. The conference emphasizes empirical rigor and innovation over a given topic or geographical area and meets the challenges of interdisciplinary and international audiences. Alp-Pop scholars confer both formally and informally. A traditional conference program (paper and poster presentations) mixes with group activities in a world-class winter resort. The conference location, the Hotel Planibel in La Thuile (Aosta Valley), is next to the ski-slopes, and is in close proximity to the airports of Geneva and Torino/Milano.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

Authors are asked to submit a short abstract (250 words) and either an extended abstract or a completed paper.  Please submit your paper here. Communication of the acceptance of papers will take place by mid-October. The deadline for submission of original papers or extended abstracts is
Friday 25 September 2026. Participants are expected to seek their own funding. Special-rate rooms have been reserved at the conference hotel for arrival on January 17 (conference starts in the afternoon) and departure on January 20 (the conference will end in the late morning). Participants will receive information on how to reach La Thuile and regular updates on the conference organization.

MENTORING PROGRAM

Alp-Pop is traditionally a great setting for junior researchers to present their work and to interact with senior colleagues. To reinforce this tradition, we are organizing a mentoring program. We will match papers of junior scholars with senior mentors with relevant expertise. Mentors will commit to giving one-on-one feedback about the paper/poster presentation of their mentee and to spending time during meals and on ski-lifts with them. If you want to participate in the mentoring program as either a junior researcher or a mentor, please tick the box in the submission form. We will also offer individual sessions with a communication expert aimed at improving interview and presentation skills.  We will contact you with more information before the conference.
